چکیده

We study a mean-field model of a Kondo alloy using numerical techniques and analytic approximations. In this model, randomly distributed magnetic impurities interact with a band of conduction electrons and have a residual RKKY coupling of strength J . This system has a quantum critical point at J = Jc ∼ T 0 K , the Kondo scale of the problem. The T dependence of the spin susceptibility near the quantum critical point is singular with χ(0)− χ(T ) ∝ T γ and non-integer γ. At Jc, γ = 3/4. For J ∼ Jc there are two crossovers with decreasing T , first to γ = 3/2 and then to γ = 2, the Fermi-liquid value. The dissipative part of the time-dependent susceptibility χ′′(ω) ∝ ω as ω → 0 except at the quantum critical point where we find χ′′(ω) ∝ √ω. The characteristic spin-fluctuation energy vanishes at the quantum critical point with ωsf ∼ (1− J/Jc) for J ∼ Jc, and ωsf ∝ T 3/2 at the critical coupling. 75.30.Mb, 74.80.-g, 71.55.Jv Typeset using REVTEX ∗Presently at : Service de Physique de l’Etat Condensé, CEA-Saclay, 91191 Gif-sur-Yvette, France 1

Non-Fermi-Liquid Behavior in Metallic Quasicrystals with Local Magnetic Moments.

Motivated by the intrinsic non-Fermi-liquid behavior observed in the heavy-fermion quasicrystal Au51Al34Yb15, we study the low-temperature behavior of dilute magnetic impurities placed in metallic quasicrystals. We find that a large fraction of the magnetic moments are not quenched down to very low temperatures T, leading to a power-law distribution of Kondo temperatures P(T(K))∼T(K)(α-1), with...

We introduce a model for Ce 3+ impurities in cubic metals which exhibits competition between the Fermi-liquid fixed point of the single channel Kondo model and the non-Fermi-liquid fixed point of the two-and three-channel Kondo models. Using the non-crossing approximation and scaling theory, we find: (i) A possible three-channel Kondo effect between the one-and two-channel regimes in parameter ...

Disorder-Driven Non-Fermi-Liquid Behavior in Kondo Alloys

We show how a model of disordered Anderson lattices can account for many non-Fermi-liquid features observed in some Kondo alloys. Because of the exponential nature of the Kondo temperature scale TK , even moderate disorder leads to a rather broad distribution of Kondo temperatures, inducing strong effective disorder seen by the conduction electrons. Spins with very low TK ’s remain unquenched a...

Fe b 20 04 Universal Behavior of Heavy - Fermion Metals Near a Quantum Critical Point

The behavior of the electronic system of heavy fermion metals is considered. We show that there exist at least two main types of the behavior when the system is nearby a quantum critical point which can be identified as the fermion condensation quantum phase transition (FCQPT). We show that the first type is represented by the behavior of a highly correlated Fermi-liquid, while the second type ...
